You can run. You can hide. But you can never escape the scars of the past.

 

These are the hard lessons aspiring writer Kaydence Fletcher must learn. 

 

Fleeing to Lake Mindemoya on Manitoulin Island in search of freedom and inspiration, Kaydence buys a year-round holiday home that promises summers spent on the beach and winters skating on a frozen lake—the perfect place to start over and pen her debut novel. Or so she thinks…

 

Haunted by her past, Kaydence traps herself inside her A-frame cabin and becomes consumed by hysteric paranoia, loneliness, and her irrational fear of bears. 

 

It’s not until Calvin McIntosh mistakenly knocks on her door that Kaydence reluctantly steps outside the comfort of her walls and finds solace in northern Ontario. Swimming in waterfalls, the Aurora Borealis, muddy ATV escapades, and a canoe named Sheila, become the backdrop of her new Manitoulin Island identity.
