The Scars that Bind Us

A wooden A-frame cabin on the quiet shores of Lake Mindemoya on Manitoulin Island is the perfect escape for Kaydence Fletcher… or so she thinks.

A year-round holiday home that promises summers spent on the beach and winters skating on a frozen lake is the kind of reprieve she needs after fleeing from her abusive fiancé back in Toronto, Ontario.

It’s also the perfect setting to pen her debut novel.

Once she retreats to the cabin, Kaydence finds it hard to escape the safety of its walls. Fearing her fiancé, and the bears lurking outside, Kaydence cages herself inside, living a lonely, mundane life, punctuated only by episodes of overwhelming hysteric paranoia and obsessive exercise - which isn’t very inspiring for her writer’s block.

It’s not until Calvin McIntosh mistakenly knocks on her door, that Kaydence reluctantly steps outside the comfort of her walls and experiences Manitoulin Island life under the hot, golden August sun. Swimming in waterfalls, the Aurora Borealis, sandy beaches, muddy four-wheeling escapades, and a canoe named Sheila, become the backdrop of her heated summer romance with the stranger renting the cabin next door.

But will the scars of her past keep Kaydence running back to the safety of her lonely cabin and away from happiness?
